Matchplay Results Singles Consolation

V. Gruenwald Vs M. Dondi (19th SD)

These are the results of the consolation match play Viorel versus Maurizio
D. on 12Jun2012:

‐ Maurizio got 12 strokes more because of the HCP difference
‐ Viorel was 2 up after 1st 9 holes
‐ Maurizio squared after the back 9
‐ Viorel won the 19th hole and herewith the match

Many thanks to Maurizio for the challenging round of golf. In contrast to
myself, he only screwed up 1 hole (the 18th) but the most important one
for the match to win.

J. Carter Vs S. Sturm (8&7)

Sabine and I held our consolation bracket match last Sunday at Schoenfeld.
Despite the threat of rain (which kept many golfers off the course), only
one brief sprinkle dampened our day and we had the golf course pretty
much to ourselves. Jerry struck early with a par on number 1 to take the
first hole, but Sabine bounced back quickly taking the second with solid play
while Jerry spent time in the rescue, the woods and everywhere else
looking for his ball. The third was halved with bogies for each player. From
hole 4 on, Jerry found his game and played solid golf with no mistakes. The
result was a run of 8 straight winners to end the match 8 and 7. We had a
fun day on the course and enjoyed the lack of rain!

M. Grandison vs D. Jenkins (2&1)

Grandison and Jenkins played two matches in one, using the UNGC vs GC
Lengenfeld friendly Stableford tournament also for their singles consolation
Matchplay round. (It’s not recommended) . The rain that accompanied the
day’s play is another matter. At least it was warm.

Starting on hole 10 with Christian and Irvin from the home club, Margaret
had a 10‐shot advantage over David based on the rules of the competition.
(We didn’t know this then). David won the first hole but by 18, Margaret
was 3 up (go Margaret!). (We didn’t know this then either, but there was a
unanimous feeling that she was ahead).

So David fought back on the front nine (go David!) but Margaret hung in
there. It was an intense ding‐dong battle: Jenkins ‐Grandison‐Jenkins‐
Grandison‐Jenkins‐Grandison‐Jenkins‐split the 8th‐Grandison, whew!!!
Great match. Time to see how we did …

Mary Lou Kelly Vs Alastair West (3&1)

Mary Lou and Alastair played their match at GC Schoenfeld as part of a four
ball with Jerry Carter and Sabine Sturm (who were also playing their
match). Despite dire forecasts the weather largely held off and allowed for
a very enjoyable and competitive match. It was nip and tuck throughout the
round with Mary Lou taking an early lead, which would switch a number of
times. For most of the match there was no more than one hole in it either
way with both players having some strong holes. In the end Alastair won 3
and 1, though but for a number of bad lies in sand traps that Mary Lou had
to contend with the result would probably have been reversed. Ultimately
fun was had by all and many thanks to Jerry and Sabine for such an
enjoyable round.
